VIRM-4

Last year the first of 50 new VIRM (dubbeldeks interregiomaterieel) were delivered to the NS. Until now I’ve never been in any of them, but yesterday I finally encountered one during the short during from Utrecht Centraal to Bilthoven. I was a bit surprised they would use such a new train that is actually meant for intercity services on this line. But I won’t complain :)

Of all the trainsets in the Netherlands I like the IRM’s the most: they’re pretty comfortable, are relatively quiet, and, in my opinion, they feel pretty cozy ;) I’m sure many people have already been in one of these, but since it was my first time I was pretty excited (especially since I like trains and all). I took more photos than the two below, but doubt anyone is that interested in them.

My favourite are the traditional single-deck intercity with the yellow textile chairs.

Exactly which one are you referring to? Matthijs and I tried to figure it out, but we don’t know any intercity train with yellow textile chairs. Are you referring to the old-style regular intercity with the orange colored chairs? Those are being upgraded as well (to the new color coding of blue/red).

I’m assuming Thijs is referring to the regular passenger carriages powered by an electric engine. The chairs in the revamped interior are yellowish. I’ve regularly traveled between Utrecht and Eindhoven using this type of train .

On this line a horrible train type of German origin was also used from time to time, the smell was terrible. Fortunately most trains traveling this line are VRIMs, my personal favorite.

Ah, I knew there was another carriage out there that was revamped. Now that you mention it, I do have an idea of these yellowish seats, I think I know what they look like now. Still, are there any photos of this revamped carriage?
