A Place in Time

So, here we are. My new personal place to publish my journals, blogs, musings and thoughts. A place where both strangers and friends are welcome. But most importantly, a place where I can feel comfortable enough to write about anything I want to. Although I’ve written blogs since 2004, I’m very excited about this new personal space of mine and I hope you’ll bear with me as I discover both it’s possibilities and limitations.

I suspect that some of you are wondering about the title I chose for this blog. It’s not exactly the easiest to remember, nor is it the simplest to type in. Before I decided on internaldialogue.nl, I had a list containing about thirty names I forced myself to come up with. I didn’t really like any of them. All of them were shorter in length than internaldialogue, that’s for sure. But I couldn’t recognize myself in any of them. They might have been easy to remember, but none of them said: this is me. But then, after I stopped trying to think of cool names, this one just came to me. It’s not something I thought of myself, though. Obviously the words themselves have meaning, but it’s actually the title to a song. If you want to know more about the song and its lyrics, I’m sure that a quick Google search will be helpful.

But Internal Dialogue means more to me than just the song. Right now I won’t try to explain the whole story behind it; I’ll save that for a future blog. But suffice it to say that the lyrics mean a lot to me. It’s something I’ve been able to identify with in the past, and since then those two words developed their own personal meaning for me.

Right now this journal is far from finished. There are many more things I want to add or change. I’m not even sure if I’ll keep writing my journals in English. At the moment this seems like the best option, but it’s very possible I’ll change my mind in the near future. Perhaps I’ll settle for a compromise and write certain journals in English, and certain others in Dutch.

If you have any thoughts, questions, or even advice: feel free to leave a comment. This new place is not just for me: I want to encourage everyone to join in and express their own thoughts on the things I write about. Although this website is still primarily a place where I can gather and express my thoughts, it’s always nice to have other people talk about their views and experiences. Right now my audience is very limited, but I’m curious as to what the future might bring. It may take some time before this journal matures, but feel free to be a part of it’s development. If you decide to respond you may do so in either English or Dutch, no matter what language I chose to write the journal in.

Thank you for stopping by and reading this introduction. If you decide to stay, I hope you’ll enjoy the coming thoughts and stories from my world.

Welcome (back)! Looking forward to the external dialogue – though it might be some time before more people join in. Good to hear I have at least one faithful reader already :)
